$138 A Week For Groceries - Day 10 Meals (Monday)

I'm a post behind, so I'll keep this one short.

If you're just joining us, this post is part of my 30 day grocery budget diary in which I detail all my grocery shopping for a month as well as all the home-cooked/prepared food our family enjoys from those groceries and the cost of each meal, as well as each serving where applicable.

I'm also sharing applicable recipes as well as my thought process and ideas for repurposing leftovers and generally making the best use possible of the food in my kitchen.

Now for Monday's meals.

As always, I've included a meal total and per serving total on the blog. The detailed ingredient cost breakdown HERE.

Breakfast

For me, Dean and Joey, cereal with milk. A half banana as well in mine. Dean generally thinks bananas are gross. Coffee for all three of us.

For Izz, a half banana, some goldfish crackers, and a handful of grapes. Oh, and her milk as usual.

BREAKFAST TOTAL (2 adults, 1 teen, 1 toddler): $1.92

Lunch

For Joey, his usual ham sandwich, apple, and juice pouch. For Dean, pretty much the same, with the addition of a handful of those gag gift Funyons, and 4 Famous Amos cookies. He was apparently razzed by a co-worker for bringing a kiddie lunch. All things considered, I find that funny. ;)

For me and Izz, one of those cup noodles (her share before the much Tabasco), an apple, a small Asian pear, and a couple of boiled eggs. She usually eats the whites of one egg and leaves me the yolk. This is ok. I remember thinking egg yolks were yucky well into my childhood.

On any given day, I bribe Izz with roughly 4 little Famous Amos cookies. (That's actually the reason I bought them.) So I'll just add them here.

LUNCH TOTAL (2 adults, 1 teen, 1 toddler): $4.22

Dinner

was that Easy Braised Teriyaki Chicken I made ahead on Sunday...

...along with an easy salad of green cabbage, carrot, tomato and a little green onion, dressed with the leftover Miso Ginger Dressing I made last week.

Oh, and some of that kimchi I made last week, too.

With a couple of Coronas each for me and Dean.

Joey had milk with his dinner. Having been born in Asia and raised on a generally Asian diet, the idea of drinking milk with savory food is generally quite strange to me, but that's not my kids' experience, so I try to cringe only on the inside when they do it, but sometimes I fail.

Izz shared my food with me. She happens to love this dish, so she ate quite a bit and then later asked for more rice with sauce.

DINNER TOTAL (2 adults, 1 teen, 1 toddler): $10.88
COST OF 6 SERVINGS TERIYAKI CHICKEN, SALAD & RICE: $5.26
COST PER SERVING: $0.88

MEALS DAY 10 TOTAL: $17.02

All I have to do for dinner tonight is prep some veg. I really love that whole cooking ahead thing when I actually manage to do it.

Now waiting for She Who Hates To Nap to nap.

I know. Good luck with that.
