$138 A Week For Groceries - Day 4 Meals (Tuesday)

I've been so wordy the past couple of posts, I think I'll give you a break today. ;)

Simple Fried Chicken with
Korean Style Chili Garlic Soy Dipping Sauce
Spaghetti Vegetable Chow Mein,
and Watermelon for 3 and a toddler with leftovers.

About $2.00 per serving.

As always, I've included a meal total and per serving total on the blog. The detailed ingredient cost breakdown HERE.

Breakfast

Yet more toast and coffee for me and Dean. We tend to eat less when the heat makes us lazy. The rest of the Cheerios and milk for Joe. I tried to talk him into a little scrambled egg, but he wasn't having it. (Remember Mads is in Stepford during the school week.)

Lest you might understandably assume that we do more volume than we really do, Joey is an exceptionally light eater for a 15 year old. Actually, he probably eats just enough, and it's probably nowhere near what most might assume given that he's a teenaged boy. I could take a cue from him on quantity. This will probably change over the course of the next year or so, but it's our reality for now.

Yet more milk and nanners for Izz. I should mention that Izz goes through about a gallon to gallon and half of milk a week, the higher end when she's teething. On average, that's probably about 70 cents' worth of milk a day. For ease of accounting from this point on, I'll round that up to 75 cents and split it over three meals at a quarter each.

BREAKFAST TOTAL: $2.99

Roasted Hatch Chilies

Though we roasted our Hatch chilies over the leftover coals from grilling our chicken on Monday night, I didn't peel them until yesterday, so I'm putting them on yesterday's tab. I'll use them in stews, braises, and soups to come.

ROASTED HATCH CHILIES TOTAL: $2.27

Lunch

For me and Dean, the two leftover portions of Bulgogi style chicken thighs and Spaghetti Vegetable Chow Mein from Monday night and some watermelon. Izz had some of my chicken and watermelon and a half ham sandwich.

Joey packed his usual school lunch of a ham sandwich with exactly three thin slices of ham as well as a little mayo and Dean's homemade BBQ sauce with some Satan's Blood added to it, an apple, and a juice pouch. And that's all he wants. He has asked me to get him some Italian and Spanish cold cuts to kick up his sandwich (he's specially fond of pancetta and jamón Serrano), so I'll probably get some for him next week, as an occasional indulgence.

LUNCH TOTAL: $1.92 (Remember I count leftovers as freebies. Joey's lunch with this week's grocery prices costs $1.04)

Dinner

Dean wanted something sweet and spicy, so I made some plain fried chicken (nothing but salt for seasoning and a half corn starch, half flour dredge) to dip in my Korean Style Chili Garlic Soy Dipping Sauce. I used up the rest of the whole fryer (if you recall, I used the back from the fryer to make wiener dog food and stock), which was 2 drums, 2 thighs, 2 wings, and a whole breast cut into two pieces (they were left on the stove).

More of that Spaghetti Vegetable Chow Mein on the side because I had the other half package of spaghetti left over from making it on Monday night. And another quarter of that watermelon.

That ended up being roughly 6 servings of food, of which we ate three last night.

Izz shared some of my dinner with me as well as a couple of small bananas later on. (Actually, she ate a lot of my chicken. She loves chicken at the moment.)

The boys indulged in a MexiCoke each. I had a sip or two and was reminded how much better the cola flavor comes through when it's not masked under a bunch of HFCS.

DINNER TOTAL: $12.17 for 6 servings, $2.03 per serving

MEALS DAY 4 TOTAL $19.34

Unrelated to anything, I saw my arms in a picture the other day, and I'm pretty sure I saw a thigh beginning to grow over my chicken wing. I think I'll hit the Total Gym in the garage for a few reps when Izz naps later today. ;)

Oh, and this whole JLaw naked pictures and the Cloud issue. People would be smart not to float their nekkid pics up to the cloud, and people would be decent not to hack and leak them. It's not one or the other. It's at least both all the time. Ideals are nice, and we should strive for them, but we also shouldn't stick our heads up our asses about the reality and diversity of humans and human nature.

Happy Humpday, all.
