Soundtracks as part of Korean pop

We all already know that the number of Korean TV addicts isn't a joke. From west to the east, south to north -- all over the world -- there are tons of fans who sleep only a few hours and who stay awake until the morning, or impatiently wait for the weekend, to finish all the episodes in the TV show they're watching, or waiting for some new release. The success of Korean soap operas may be due to the perfect scripts, acting talent and chemistry between actresses and actors, or to the style of the director, but I definitely think that the soundtracks also have a respectable part to play in a show becoming a hit.

Soundtracks and music help to reach the viewers emotionally. By courtesy of the music that plays in the background of a scene, we can feel the love, anger, happiness or hope that the actors want to express. Mostly, the lyrics are written based on the story. The best ones fit perfectly with the show. As a result, we get a perfect song that will be remembered for years and years. After these songs give you goose bumps, congratulations: you have become a fan of that show.

I really don't remember when the first time was, but I've been watching Korean soap operas for years. Over this time, I've met lots of interesting, fascinating, emotional, encouraging, rhythmic, teary, energetic and enthusiastic songs. I'd like to share some of them with you, especially the ones I liked. There's no order here; I just wrote them all down. Because of copyright issues, I tried to give links to the original versions of the songs.

Please feel free to write your own personal opinion and, also, don't forget to share your beloved songs with us.

Who knows? Maybe you guys have a story about a soundtrack to share with us.

1. "Stand Up" by J-Min, from the show "To the Beautiful You" (아름다운 그대에게)

Every time I listen this song, I feel encouragement. Something like, “Okay! Stand up and finish whatever you're trying to do. You can do it. Don't be afraid of failing. Every failure is an experience. Just keep going.”

2. "Between Heaven and Hell" by Boa, from the show "Shark" (상어)

Prepare your tissues. Okay, that might be a bit over the top, but this one has a really heartbreaking story. As K-drama addict, we're familiar with these kinds of stories, but, still, “Shark” is a must on your must-watch list.

3. "Missing You Like Crazy" by Taeyeon, from the show "The King 2 Hearts" (더킹 투하츠)

Among the dramas that I've watched, “The King 2 Hearts” always has a special place in my heart.

This song by Taeyeon helps to effectively deliver the earnest and sincere emotions shown by the character Kim Hang-ah, played by star actress Ha Ji-won.

4. "Reset" by Tiger JK, from the show "Who Are You: School 2015" (후아유 - 학교 2015)

When a technical device has a problem, resetting it is one of the solutions to turn it back to the original state. Just like everyone else, I also think it would be great if we could reset our lives, too, either all or part of them. With this song Tiger JK and Jinsil give hope to students juggling their life and school.

5. "That Woman" by Baek Ji Yong, from the show "Secret Garden" (시크릿 가든)

If we're talking about TV show soundtracks, the queen Baek Ji-young must be mentioned. She has lots of great songs, but “That Woman” is absolutely the jackpot!!!

6. "This Love" by Davichi, from the show "Descendants of the Sun" (태양의 후예)

I'm sure some of you have thought, "Where's 'Descendants of the Sun'?" so here it is. We don't need to speak about how popular this show was, since everybody already knows it very well. If you have the chance, I strongly recommend listening to all of the songs on the soundtrack, because they really give you goose bumps. The reason for choosing this song rather than “You Are My Everything” is just personal preference.

7. "For You" by Chen, Baekyun and Xiumin, from the show "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" (달의 연인 - 보보경심 려)

This time-traveling fantasy includes big name actors. This song was written by the hit songwriter Rocoberry, and produced by famous soundtrack producer Song Dongwoon.

Like the previous one on this list, it should be on your must-listen list.

8. "Stand By Me" by Shinee, from the show "Boys Over Flowers" (꽃보다 남자)

Maybe calling it a “legend” would be a bit much for the show "Boys Over Flowers," but is there anyone who hasn't yet watched it? Here's the most popular song from the show.

9. "Stay With Me" by Chanyeol and Punch, from the show "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God" (도깨비)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God" is one of the most popular Korean shows of in recent years. Korea.net Honorary Reporter Abigail D. Albino wrote about the popularity of this hit drama (http://koreanetblog.blogspot.kr/2017/01/why-world-is-going-crazy-over-goblin.html?q=Abigail), and I would like to talk about the popularity of this awesome song. Just two months have passed since it was released, and it has been viewed more than 40 million times. This number should not be underestimated.
10. "Back in Time" by Lyn,  from the show "Moon Embracing the Sun" (해를 품은 달)

This is the last one, and it's my favorite. Just listen to it.
