Korean art exhibit opens in Manila
On Feb. 9, the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines (KCC) opened its first Korean media art exhibition for 2017, entitled “Eternal Light.”
This also marked the first time the KCC held an art exhibition that used light as a tool. Through this exhibition, it introduced a new medium of Korean art to Filipinos. The exhibit features the works of Han Ho, a Korean contemporary artist and performer who uses lights in his artworks. He is the successor of Nam June Paik, a renowned video artist who is considered to be the founder of video art.
Prior to the official opening of the exhibition, Han Ho had an artist seminar and artist performance. Han Ho discussed his artworks in detail, which is a learning experience and inspiration for the audience. Han Ho also had an artist performance in which he demonstrated art using shadows and lights. It was amazing and it showcased how artistic and professional Han Ho is. At exactly 5 p.m., the "Eternal Light" opening ceremony started and the exhibition officially opened.
As the room lights were turned off, the lights of Han Ho’s artworks turned on and the beauty of each artwork shined. I, personally, was in awe at how beautiful and detailed each artwork was. I remember the reactions of the exhibit goers the first time they saw Han Ho’s masterpieces. The room was filled with oohs and aahs. It was really amazing and I loved every detail and as this concept of art is new to the Philippines, I'm excited as to how it will affect and inspire Filipinos.
"Eternal Light," the 18th solo exhibition of Han Ho, will run from Feb. 9 to April 28 at the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines, in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
To all Filipinos and art lovers, do not miss the chance to see the beauty of "Eternal Light!" You will be amazed, I promise. Don't miss out!
