REVIEW | The County General

If Torontonians know a thing or two about food, it's definitely the brunch scene. No matter how hard you try to plan in advance where to go, you just gotta show up and hope for the best because most places don't take reservations and no matter where you end up, there always seems to be a line. Luckily we chose to eat brunch at the County General located in the Queen West neighbourhood at 1PM on a Saturday and right in the middle of a snow storm.

Like most restaurants in the Queen West area, space is a hot commodity and The Country General is no exception. That's probably why there always seems to be a line at brunch time.

Their brunch menu is pretty extensive and will even cater to a group with eclectic taste. You have the usual french toast, sausage and eggs, eggs benedict because every brunch menu needs this and then if you're feeling like it's closer to lunch, maybe the fried chicken thigh sandwich is more up your alley.

One thing I know for sure, regardless of what you're ordering is to make sure you order a cup of hot cider. It tastes like Christmas morning right by the fire place and is a perfect start to anyone's brunch.

 Eggs Benedict ($14.00)
English muffin, breakfast sausage, soft poached egg & maple hollandaise

 Fried Chicken Thigh Sandwich ($14.00)
Buttermilk chicken, avocado chutney, cilantro & pickled red onion

Mushroom & Leek Omelette ($14.00)
Mushroom duxelle, watercress Salad & parmesan. The omelette was customized and made with egg whites so don't be afraid to ask what your options are when your're ordering your meal!

With any brunch menu item, you can choose to have a side of salad, fries or half & half. If you've been good during the week with your eating, splurge and get the fries or if you've had a little too much to eat and drink the night before, go for the salad. Either way, it's a win-win situation.

Brunch was delicious but only captures a small portion of what The County General has to offer so we will definitely be back to try some of their other dishes! Really, who can say no to "KFC" chicken for two?
